OUR MISSION
Boston Jazz Foundation's (BJF) mission is to foster a safe space for marginalized artists to cultivate and create. We are dedicated to serving the diverse Boston Jazz scene by providing professional development, performance opportunities and educational resources to showcase jazz and its culture to the Greater Boston community and beyond.
Join us in celebrating boston's
rich jazz history
Jazz Square celebrates the rich legacy of jazz in Boston, bringing new life to the area between Mass Ave and Columbus Ave that was once a vibrant hub for music, art, and culture. Now officially recognized as Jazz Square, this neighborhood was home to iconic jazz clubs like the Savoy Cafe, Hi-Hat Club, Eddie’s Cafe, and Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club, which remains the only one still open today. The Jazz Square celebration will feature community events, walking tours, concerts, and visual art installations to honor this history and its lasting impact. Supported by the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, Jazz Square is a collaboration between the Claremont Neighborhood Association, Boston Jazz Foundation, Reckonings Project, Wally's Cafe & Jazz Club, and JazzBoston.
The Boston area jazz scene is growing, and we are grateful to all the members of our community for working together to continue to celebrate this important music! In particular, we are pleased that Boston Jazz Foundation, JazzBoston, and the Cambridge Jazz Foundation have agreed to collaborate on a number of projects. Please note that these three non-profit organizations are independent, with differing areas of focus, but all are working towards the mutual goal of support & advocacy of improvisational jazz, a music that originated in the African American community. You can help by donating to them individually at their respective websites. Thank you!
